Warren's Charitable - But Small Shows Curiel No Mercy

Frank Warren staged another successful charity bash (no, not the type of charity event where he lets a top prospect get knocked out!) on Friday 12th September in the Grosvenor Hotel, Mayfair, London with a four bout show.
All four of Sports Network fighters came out victorious in a competitive show, which is to be shown on Sky Sports 2, Monday 15th September at 10pm.
The enigmatic Anthony Small, who dons the ridiculous moniker no fighter could ever dream of living up to (SRCJJ – Sugar Ray Clay Jones Jr!), scored another good win in stopping the USA’s Freddy Curiel in the 10th round. Curiel of course was the man who stopped Ross Minter in a bruising battle last year and this therefore represents a very good win for Small.
Small is now 20-1 (14 KO’s) and has now scored three successive stoppage wins in decent class, since his sole defeat to the Welshman, Bradley Pryce. Currently the holder of the Southern Area Light Middleweight Title, Small is a man set to try and move on to a bigger stage and I suspect a Commonwealth or British Title Challenge tilt is not too far away.
Finchley’s Derek Chisora took his unbeaten run to 6 (3 KO’s) with his sixth round stoppage win over Sean McClain. It was a decent result for Chisora as last year, McClain took Scottish prospect, Ian Millarvie, to a majority decision over 4 rounds.
It should also be noted that Chisora, a former ABA Champion, is the only man to beat Sam Sexton, the latest Prizefighter Champion. Chisora looks set to move on to British Title level in the not too distant future.
Super Middleweight Kenny Anderson of Edinburgh was taken the distance for the first time in seven starts as he beat Roman Vanicky of the Czech Republic. It’s another win for Anderson but considering Vanicky was stopped by Anderson’s compatriot Steven Maguire in one round last year, I’m sure Anderson would’ve liked to match that result, or at least again his seventh successive inside the distance win.
Completing the show, Swindon’s 2006 Commonwealth Games Gold Medalist Jamie Cox notched another win as he over Canadian Steve Conklin. Cox is now unbeaten in seven starts and this third round stoppage was his third inside the distance win.
