UFC Coverage on a Boxing Website?!

Did I read that right?

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) coverage on a boxing website?!

No way!

Well, yes way! Boxing Capital is indeed going to be providing UFC coverage on this very website, in addition to the usual expanse of boxing coverage.

Now, I realise many people seem to think that UFC and the various guises of mixed martial arts (MMA) are the sport that is trying to kill boxing but quite simply, it is our belief that the sports truly can co-exist.

Boxing is perhaps the oldest sport in the world and UFC/MMA are new kids on the block. Yes, there are similarities. But there are also some very big differences. Some people love boxing and hate UFC. Others love UFC and hate boxing. But, I believe that the number of people enjoying both sports is going to increase exponentially in the next couple of years and that’s exactly why we’ll be covering it at Boxing Capital.

Why do I believe people will grow to love both sports? Because despite initial scepticism, I do. Now, I’m the biggest boxing fan on the planet (or certainly one of, I know there’ll be a ton of people looking to dispute that with me!) and when I first saw the UFC in action I wasn’t overly impressed.

Yeah, it was exhilarating to watch when the fighters were on their feet punching, but once they went to the ground I quickly lost interest. But, with more and more UFC on television, I couldn’t help but watch more of the sport. And as I watch the sport more, I began to understand it more, appreciate it more, and admire it more.

Initially, it actually felt disloyal to boxing to like UFC. With so much media coverage positioning UFC as the sport looking to kill boxing, I’m sure many boxing fans are put off even having a cursory look at UFC coverage.

However, if you look beyond the sensationalist headlines in magazines and newspapers, you will find that the UFC is not looking to kill boxing. It’s simply a growing sport, with a fanatical fan base and something that boxing needs to look at closely; if the sport of boxing was as well run as the UFC then we’d see some very impressive contests.

UFC cards are presented with slick production, short gaps between fights, top quality cards with competitive fights from start to finish rather than the reliance on one big main event. Who wouldn’t want to see all of those things at a boxing show? Exactly.....we all would. So that is why we love the UFC at Boxing Capital.

We’ll be starting our coverage shortly – handily timed to cover the first ever British fighter challenging for the UFC Title in Dan Hardy’s attempt to wrestle the welterweight title from Canadian great George St-Pierre at UFC 111 on March 27th – but just wanted to let you know what was going to be coming to these pages in the near future.

Good news? Bad news? What do think? Let us know at info@boxingcapital.com.
