There is no doubt that the highlight of this week’s action is the battle of ages as Kelly Pavlik takes on Bernard Hopkins. We’ve compiled a full preview here and our tip for the fight is as follows.

BOXING CAPITAL TIP – Pavlik to beat Hopkins on Points @ EVENS (Paddy Power)

In this weekend’s domestic action, Ian Napa challenges for the European Bantamweight Title at York Hall in Bethnal Green. Napa is in the form of his life having reeled off four excellent victories on the spin against Jason Booth, Lee Haskins, Martin Power and Colin Moffett.

But his opponent this weekend is a step up from that level of opposition; Carmelo Ballone of Belgium brings to the ring a 21-2 (10 KO’s) record to the ring and starts favourite with the bookies. Closer inspection of Ballone’s record shows one of his two defeats was questionable as he was disqualified for hitting on a ‘questionable’ break command.

Both men have lost to common foe Simone Maludrottu on points over twelve rounds, Napa unanimously and Ballone on a tight split decision.

Despite the fact I’d love to see Napa secure the title, I can’t see it happening. I expect Ballone to have the edge and win a hard fought points decision.
