Shadow Boxer VRT DVD Review

Being typical men, we tried the Shadow Boxer VRT first and decided to look at the free DVD afterwards. It seems something of a gimmick to have a free DVD with a product but we all agreed it was actually a superb addition, to what is a new and evolving product.

There are three sections to the DVD:

Shadow Boxer VRT Lessons – Taught by two time WBC Light Heavyweight Title Challenger Paul Briggs (lost two majority points decisions to then champion, Germany’s Thomas Adamek). Paul actually uses the Shadow Boxer VRT in his own training and rather than a lesson on how to use the Shadow Boxer VRT, its basically a free technique session from a world rated boxer. Briggs goes through all of the basic punches and you even get to see how he transfers weight on his feet when punching. And to give you an idea of how hard the Shadow Boxer VRT is, even Paul Briggs is sweating and struggling to talk and breathe smoothly after his 7 minute demonstration!

Then you get a chance to see if you can match Paul’s punch output – three one minute rounds with 15 seconds break. Paul’s punching is smooth and constant for the duration so you get to see exactly how the Shadow Boxer VRT can be used.

Shadow Boxer VRT Class – This is a 40 minute Full Body Workout, hosted by three Australian ladies (not quite beauties but in those shorts you definitely would after a pint or two!). For experienced boxers, I appreciate that this is probably not the type of workout you are looking for. However, for people using boxing as a means to keep fit this is ideal. It’s a varied session with lunges, various multi-gym type exercises, a boxing session in the middle and even some kicking too! After about half an hour of the session, the previously glamorous host is looking rather sweaty from the workout, another indication of just how hard it works you – we can vouch for that too.

Virtual Personal Trainer – The final element of the DVD is one we found extremely interesting. As the name suggests, a computerised personal trainer takes you through twelve different exercises over eight minutes.

The most useful aspect of this is that the Personal Trainer tells you exactly what muscles each exercise is working – for example, throwing a jab works your Deltoid, Tricep and Side Abdomen whilst throwing an Uppercut will work instead work your Bicep, Deltoid and Side Abdomen. An extremely useful tool, so you can ensure you are working the areas you intend to.

Summary - An excellent addition to a great product. When you consider there are so many so called fitness DVD's from celebrities who know nothing about fitness retailing for GBP 15 and upwards, this demonstrates real added value.
