Las Vegas - Bars That Didn't Quite Make The Top 5
Published May 21, 2009 by Martin Bean
Choosing the top five nightspots in the original city of sin, Las Vegas, was an extremely hard task. But there are so many bars, we felt we had to include those that were close to making the top five, but just missed out. So here we go, in no particular order, a list of honourable mentions…
Coyote Ugly (New York, New York)
Seen the film? This is the bar. Also in New York, New York, this is another fine bar to have a drink or to in. Barmaids dance on the bar and all the female drinkers nervously stroll in and are soon dancing on the stage after a couple of drinks! Good fun.
Make sure you try a shot in this bar—rather than the usual way of having a shot you tip your head back over the bar as one of the lovely bar maids pour the shot down your throat directly from the bottle! No half measures at all!
Ghost Bar (The Palms)
Ghost Bar is the Palms Version of the Voodoo Lounge at the Rio. Sleeker inside with an exclusive feel but the smaller outside terrace, is definitely a bad thing. But, it’s on the 55th floor and does offer a 360 degree view of Vegas with it’s all glass surroundings so is well worth a look. Also take a peek out to the terrace—one of the slabs in the floor in glass and offers a view to the ground! Trust me, 55 floors up that can make you feel very dizzy!
LAX (The Luxor)
A direct import of the LA super club, LAX is split over two stories and a staggering 26,000 square feet. It was actually brought to life by the creators of the excellent Pure nightclub (Bar No. 2 in our guide) and has played host to many celebs, such as Britney Spears, typifying the A-List celebs hanging at this spot regularly. If you can make it in the place you’ll have a superb night.
Body English (Hard Rock Hotel)
This is the upper class club in the Hard Rock Café but is also the most expensive—you must be spending at least a few hundred dollars to even hope to get a booth. But, if you’re budget stretches that far then you should pay this place a visit—a real mix of rock and urban music throughout the night ensure a party atmosphere.
Studio 54 (MGM Grand)
The MGM plays host to Studio 54, which often host big event in the run up to fights and Oscar De La Hoya opened a party here last year. It’s a huge night club with urban music and as the MGM often plays host to many of the big fights, you can easily find yourself stumbling here. Not the best bar in town but open late (varies between 4am to 6am) and if you like urban music, you’ll be in paradise.
Heart Bar (Planet Hollywood)
One of the best casino based bars, Heart Bar can be found in Planet Hollywood. Located in the centre of the floor you get fantastic views all around in what is a generally glamorous clientele.
