Jermain Taylor - Looks Good Beating Lacy

Published November 17, 2008 by Martin Bean

Jermain Taylor beat Jeff Lacy Saturday in comprehensive fashion—pounding out a unanimous 12 round points decision, as predicted in our preview.

Following successive defeats to Kelly Pavlik it was a good performance from Taylor who went through his full repertoire in beating a faded Lacy.

Taylor moves to 28-2-1 (17 KO’s) and look comfortable up at Super-Middleweight where some good matches lie in wait; Mikkel Kessler would against Taylor would be a marquee fight and suddenly a third Hopkins-Taylor fight is appealing.

But Taylor was turning his attention to an even bigger fish—Wales’ Joe Calzaghe. Lou DiBella, Taylors promoter, outlined his thoughts on a Taylor-Calzaghe match up ‘Joe’s the man. If we had the opportunity to fight the man, Jermain has never walked away from a challenge and there is no bigger challenge than Joe. There's not a lot of choices for Joe if he continues campaigning. If he's not going to retire, there are not a lot of choices for him. Jermain is athletic enough to give Joe a good go, and Joe is a great champion who is not going to fight stooges."

In the more immediate future, we could see Taylor taking on Britain’s own Carl Froch. This win put Taylor in line for a WBC title shot and Froch takes on Jean Pascal for the Vacant WBC Title on December 6th.
