Haye vs. Valuev Set For November 7!

News has just come through that David Haye is set to challenge Nikolai Valuev for his WBA Heavyweight Title on November 7th.

A venue for the contest is still to be announced, but its come as a huge shock, as it seemed almost certain that Haye would challenge Vitali Klitschko for the WBC title on September 12th.

Personally, I think this is an absolutely fantastic move by the Hayemaker camp. Whist Valuev is the biggest of the Heavyweights at over 7ft tall, he lacks the ability of the Klitschko brothers. Yes, Haye is a small Heavyweight at just over 15st but Evander Holyfield is also a small Heavyweight and he nearly outboxed Valuev late last year, despite Holyfields advancing years.

If Haye can keep his discipline and box a smart, sensible fight for twelve rounds, his superior ability can definitely see him take the Heavyweight Title. Then, he's in a much better negotiating position for a match with one (or both!) of the Klitschko brothers.

More news will follow and the venue is still to be announced, but I am told that contracts have been signed for this contest.
