Betting Tips - Froch vs. Taylor & Appleby vs. Lindsay

Carl “The Cobra’ Froch makes the first defence of his WBC Super Middleweight Title on Saturday night (April 26th) against Jermain “Bad Intentions’ Taylor. No-one can accuse the fast talking Froch of taking the easier option here – rather than a voluntary defence against a nondescript european opponent he takes on a former undisputed middleweight champion and Olympic medallist. Not only that, but he does it on away turf too as this fight takes place at the MGM Foxwoods in Connecticut, USA.
Taylor hasn’t looked great in some of his recent contest and I’ve heard many discount his chances – in my opinion that would be foolish. Jermain has class and speed in abundance as well as good movement; a combination that could cause Froch a lot of problems, unless he can improve his defence. Remember Carl was painfully easy to hit against Jean Pascal when winning this title in December.
However, Taylor is a new Super Middleweight and has not fought anyone of Froch’s level up at 12 stone – the size/strength difference could well prove crucial here as Froch is a big Super Middleweight with excellent power.
I see a very close fight through 8 rounds, perhaps Taylor taking three of the first four, Froch taking three of the next four. But, in the final third of the fight, I think the Englishman can assert his strength and put himself amongst the biggest name in the sport, by taking a hard fought but unanimous point’s decision.

A superb clash between two of Britain’s best unbeaten prospects takes place in Belfast this weekend as Martin Lindsay challenges for the British Featherweight Title against Scotland’s talented Paul Appleby. Appleby has looked impressive since winning this title in June 2008 (against fellow Scot John Simpson)and has won rave reviews from many of the boxing fraternity. Whilst I recognise him as a talent, he is just missing the all important “X-Factor’ for me; he’s a little too easy to hit and is not the biggest Featherweight.
Appleby’s opponent, Martin Lindsay, has made a quieter rise through the ranks but scored his career best win last time out against rangy Liverpudlian, Derry Matthews. Lindsay is one of those fighters that just looks made for the professional ranks – he paces himself extremely well and looks to get stronger as fights develop.
This fight is set to be a domestic classic and I anticipate a lightning fast start from Appleby, with him well ahead through six rounds. From then on however, I think Lindsay can start to make an impact and begin to break the young Scot down. As the saying goes, “some o’s gotta go’ – I think it will be Appleby’s, with Lindsay forcing a late stoppage to become the new British Champion.
